And the winner is...

Sleepless Nights by Elizabeth Hardwick.

It came close but one of the founders of the New York Review of Books and reputable critic won over the prize-winning Japanese author. I've read Hardwick's critical works but not her fiction so this should be something of an adventure. Hopefully we'll have a lot of people reading and, more importantly, enjoying the novel. The deadline is July 31st.

Cool. I'm only a SOG member by proxy (that is, I read the blog), but I do have this particular book. Maybe I will dig it out of the TBR pile and be able to enjoy your comments even more.

I don't have a blog, but would love to take part in the discussion. May I?

I ordered the book awhile ago but it still hasn't arrived! I will read it when it gets here but I may enter the discussion a bit late.

Rachel I have no idea when you made your comment and I hope you're still checking in. Of course you may join in, owning a blog is not required.

Heather that's fine. It's such a small novel that even if you get to it tardily it won't take long for you to catch up. Glad to see you gradually re-entering on-line activities.

My copy finally arrived today. As soon as I finish my other book club read (Wind in the Willows) I'll start this one and hopefully be ready in time for the discussion date!

I started Sleepless nights and Don Quixote today. I don't usually read two novels at the same time. It's good that Sleepless nights is so short--but good.
